Your photos stay with you.

Questions or requests about this website can be sent to [email protected]. CaptionBar is a personally operated project based in Norway.
Photos and captions
CaptionBar opens and edits your photo in your browser. The application does not upload your photo or caption, create an account, or save your editing session to a server. “Start over” clears the current photo and caption from the editor. Reloading or closing the page also ends the editing session.
Downloaded images are saved on your device. JPEG exports keep the accepted image’s dimensions and use a white background for transparent areas. The editor accepts JPG, PNG, and WEBP files up to 30 MB, 32 megapixels, and 8,192 pixels per side.
Preferences on your device
Theme and emoji choices are kept only in the current page’s memory. Reloading resets them to your device’s defaults. The editor does not create cookies, local-storage entries, or saved editing sessions. When this version loads, it removes the two preference entries saved by earlier versions. Your browser may cache ordinary site files, including fonts, to load them faster.
Loading the website
Cloudflare provides the website’s hosting, content delivery, DNS and security services. Loading a page or font sends Cloudflare connection information such as your IP address, requested URL, time, and browser information. This is separate from editing: your chosen photo and caption are not sent with those requests.
Hosting data is used to deliver and protect the site and diagnose failures. The intended legal basis for this limited operational processing is the legitimate interest in providing a reliable, secure tool. CaptionBar has no application database of visitors or separate exported request-log archive. Cloudflare can process operational and security data under its own retention rules; there is no promise here that all host logs disappear when you close the editor. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
If you email us
The contact mailbox uses Zoho Mail’s EU service. If you send a message, CaptionBar and the email providers involved process your email address, any name you supply, message headers, the message, and any attachments. This is used to answer your request, troubleshoot a problem, or handle a privacy or security report—not to subscribe you to marketing.
The intended legal basis for ordinary support correspondence is the legitimate interest in responding to people who contact the project. Where a request requires compliance with a legal duty, that duty is the basis for the necessary processing. Providing information by email is voluntary; only send what is needed to explain your request.
Correspondence is retained while the request or an associated problem remains open, and afterwards only while needed for follow-up, a documented security issue, or an applicable legal obligation or claim. Unneeded correspondence should be deleted during mailbox review; no automatic deletion schedule is currently configured. Provider backups and service records follow the provider’s retention rules. See Zoho’s privacy policy.
Providers and international processing
Cloudflare and Zoho use affiliated companies and service providers. Choosing an EU mailbox does not mean every network, support or security operation takes place only in the EEA. The providers describe their processing locations and transfer safeguards in their policies and data-processing documentation: Cloudflare’s data-processing addendum and Zoho’s GDPR information. Contact us if you need details about the processing relevant to your request.
Ads and analytics
This version has no advertising scripts, analytics trackers, advertising cookies, or automated profiling. There are no optional advertising cookies to accept or reject. A Google ownership-verification tag and public seller record do not load Google advertising code in your browser. If advertising or analytics are introduced, this notice and the necessary consent and withdrawal controls must be updated and tested before those services are enabled.
Your choices and rights
You can use “Start over” or close the editor to end the active editing session. CaptionBar has no server copy of your photo or caption to retrieve or delete. Files you download remain under your control on your device.
For personal information held in correspondence or otherwise within our control, you can ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction, or object to processing based on legitimate interests. Portability and consent withdrawal apply where the relevant legal conditions are met; this version does not use consent-based advertising. Email [email protected] to make a request. We may need proportionate information to verify it, but please do not send identity documents unless specifically necessary and requested.
You can also complain to Norway’s data protection authority, Datatilsynet, or your local supervisory authority.
Emoji artwork
Android emoji use the Google Noto font included with this site. iPhone emoji use the Apple font supplied by an iPhone, iPad, or Mac; the site does not download an Apple font. Available iPhone artwork depends on your operating system version.
